VMware Failed to Lock the Main Memory File

In the VMware workstation, sometimes the virtual machine restores process has failed. we got error messages like "Failed to lock the main memory file" or "An error occurred while restoring the virtual machine". One screenshot is given below.

This error message contained one ".vmem" extension file or folder name along with its path that has to be blocked by the VMware services to restore the suspended virtual machine.

Actually, this is the folder name, not the file name. For example, this folder name would be "Server 201601c1e465.vmem.lck". Please notice that an extension with ".lck" has been added to the end of the folder name. That is the actual name we have to work with. If any reason VMware service has failed to lock that folder (Server 201601c1e465.vmem.lck) then this error message has appeared.

To resolve this issue just locate that "Server 201601c1e465.vmem.lck" extension folder using its path and rename it. For example, we rename it from "Server 201601c1e465.vmem.lck" to "Test Server 201601c1e465.vmem.lck " Then try to restore the VM again. Hopefully this time it will work perfectly.

Thank you
