Mikrotik Reserve IP Address

We all know that DHCP reservation is the process to reserve an IP address for a specific user or MAC address. Generally, the DHCP server allocates the new IP address to the DHCP client users or devices after the DHCP lease has expired. 

But sometimes, there are some important devices in our network whose IP addresses shouldn't be changed. Such as printers, any shared devices, etc. That's why we have to tell the DHCP server to allocate the same IP address to that devices. This process is called the "DHCP Reservation".

In this tutorial, we will learn how to reserve an IP address for a specific device or MAC address using the Mikrotik Router. We will go through this process using the "Winbox" tool.

First of all login into your Mikrotik router and go to the "IP" section and then "DHCP Server" section.

After opening the DHCP server configuration page, navigate to the "Leases" tab. There you will find the list of IP addresses that are being provided by the DHCP server to the DHCP client devices. 

Now locate your device's MAC address from that list and simply double click on it. From that interface navigate to the "General" tab and click on the "Make Static" button.

That's it. From now on, this IP address will be reserved for that MAC address that is associate with it.

Generally, after allocating the IP address to the client, a DHCP server makes an entry to the "Leases" tab for that IP address. This type of entry is defined by the "Dynamic" flag.

But, after reserving the IP address for a specific MAC address, that "d" or dynamic flag will be removed from that entry. This will define that or the blank flag will define that this lease entry is static and never be timed out.
