Windows Live Mail Wrong Password (Login is Incorrect)

Windows live mail is an email client software that is a part of windows essential programmed. Any kind of email accounts you can connect with this email client software.  Today we will discuss an issue concern with authentication errors for windows live mail client software. Generally, this type of error is not only for the windows live mail app, we can face it any kind of email client software. Whatever the email client is, the solution will be the same.

During email account authentication we got sometimes "wrong username or password" or "Login is incorrect" message even we write the correct password. For example, you can login your gmail account via web page, but using the same credential you can't access your gmail account from email client.

Not only related to the gmail account, for the other user accounts scenario will be the same. To resolve this issue, first of all we have to confirmed that, our SMTP port number is correct which we have configured. If we are using SMTPS protocol over SMTP, then our port number must be 465 or 587.  So we have to check what port number is being used by our mail server. If it is using 465 as SMTPS port number, then we have to use that also. If it is use 587 as SMTPS, then we have to use 587. If the port number is being mismatched, then our mail server reject the login request which is incoming from mail client. That's why, our mail client shows the credential error although everything is alright.

On the other hand, whatever protocol you are using for email download, if the port number is incorrect, then email client wouldn't be enable download any message from email server.

If we find that, the SMTPS port number is correct, then we will move to our next option. Now we will check if there is two step verification is enabled in our mail server. Some email client software doesn't support this type of authentication. In that case, we can disable this feature from our server or we can change our mail client software which have to supported this type of authentication.

If two step verification is disabled and till now we can't access our email account, then we have to check our server if there is any restriction for less secure application access. Some email provider disable access for less secure application. Such as Gmail. If your email client software is less secure according to gmail policy, then you can't access your email account from that mail client until you allow this on server policy.  So to resolve this issue, you have to allow access for less secure application in your gmail account. Otherwise you have to change your mail client which have to be secured as gmail policy.

To allow less secure application in your gmail account, please login your account and go to "manage your google account" option. From there, go to "security" section. Here you will get the option to allow less secure app.

Your problem should be resolved by this time. If not please upgrade your mail client or use any up to date email client software. Hope problem will be resolved.
