Outlook Gmail Wrong Username Password

Microsoft Outlook is an email client software that is a part of windows essential programmed. Any kind of email accounts you can connect with this email client software.  Today we will discuss an issue concern with authentication errors for Microsoft Outlook mail client software. Generally, this type of error is not only for the Microsoft Outlook mail app, we can face it any kind of email client software. Whatever the email client is, the solution will be the same.

During email account authentication we got sometimes "wrong username or password" or "Login is incorrect" message even we write the correct password. For example, you can login to your Gmail account via the web page, but using the same credential you can't access your Gmail account from an email client.

Not only related to the Gmail account, for the other user accounts scenario will be the same. To resolve this issue, first of all, we have to confirm that, our SMTP port number is correct which we have configured. If we are using SMTPS protocol over SMTP, then our port number must be 465 or 587.  So we have to check what port number is being used by our mail server. If it is using 465 as SMTPS port number, then we have to use that also. If it is using 587 as SMTPS, then we have to use 587. If the port number is being mismatched, then our mail server rejects the login request which is incoming from the mail client. That's why our mail client shows the credential error although everything is alright.

On the other hand, whatever protocol you are using for email download, if the port number is incorrect, then the email client wouldn't enable download any message from the email server.

If we find that, the SMTPS port number is correct, then we will move to our next option. Now we will check if there is two-step verification is enabled in our mail server. Some email client software doesn't support this type of authentication. In that case, we can disable this feature from our server or we can change our mail client software which has to support this type of authentication.

If two-step verification is disabled and till now we can't access our email account, then we have to check our server if there is any restriction for less secure application access. Some email providers disable access for less secure applications. Such as Gmail. If your email client software is less secure according to Gmail policy, then you can't access your email account from that mail client until you allow this on server policy.  So to resolve this issue, you have to allow access to less secure applications in your Gmail account. Otherwise, you have to change your mail client which has to be secured as Gmail policy.

To allow a less secure application in your Gmail account, please login your account and go to the "manage your google account" option. From there, go to the "security" section. Here you will get the option to allow the less secure apps.

Your problem should be resolved by this time. If not please upgrade your mail client or use any up-to-date email client software. Hope the problem will be resolved.
