VMware Horizon Change Default Port

We know that the VMware Horizon server is a virtual desktop infrastructure platform that is used to create a virtual desktop for the user. To access this virtual desktop we can use our web browser or we can use the horizon client program. To grant access to these virtual desktops, VMware uses two gateway protocols. The first one is the "Blast" protocol and the second one is the "PCoIP" protocol. The "Blast" secure gateway protocol is the VMware proprietary protocol. On the other hand, the "PCoIP" secure gateway is the open standard protocol.

The PCoIP protocol provides the gateway service using the TCP port 4172. And the Blast protocol provides the gateway service using the TCP port 8443. To grant access to the VMware Horizon web portal, it uses TCP port 443.

In this tutorial, we are going to learn that how to change all of these default port numbers in the VMware Horizon Server.

Let's start. After login into your router, expand the "Settings" menu from the left panel and click on the "Servers" option.

Now navigate to the "Connection Servers" tab and select your "Horizon Server" name from the list. After that, click on the "Edit" button.

In the "General" tab you will find all the parameters that are configured with their default value.

At first, we will forward to change the web portal access port, that is TCP port 443. There is a parameter available named "External URL" under the "HTTP(s) Secure Tunnel" section. From here, just change the port number as your requirement. Here, it is configured with the default one that is "443".

Now we will move to change the default PCoIP port number. There is a parameter available named "PCoIP External URL" under the "PCoIP Secure Gateway" section. From here, just change the port number as your requirement. Here, it is configured with the default one that is "4172".

This time we will forward to change the default Blast Protocol gateway TCP port number. There is a parameter available named "Blast External URL" under the "Blast Secure Gateway" section. From here, just change the port number as your requirement. Here, it is configured with the default one that is "8443".

That's all. After changing those default port numbers, just restart your horizon server service to take this effect. To restart the service just disable and then enable the server from the "Connection Servers" list.

Done. From now you have to specify those customized port numbers in their respective URLs. Because you changed the default one. Otherwise, the URL won't work or the VM won't be loaded. Please don't forget to open those ports into the firewall.
